Creative Writing - Respect for a Stepseason

Respect for a Stepseason

In the days of a long winter
People’s joys will always splinter

Trodden down by the very fact
That the days of winter sunshine lack

But all forget one very thing
The first warm days are not of spring

As you walk out seeing flowers
Reaching toward the sun as towers

As you see the blossom bloom
Ridding the earth of constant gloom

As the crocus peaks through the ground
Don’t declare spring has been found

Remember give winter some respect
Because it’s later days spring reflects

And when you say spring is here
It could be winter may shed a tear

You did not respect what winter made
You listened to inherent descriptions laid

For winter isn’t always cold and gloomy
In its later days it may be warm and bloomy

Because winter works as hard as it can
To give a few pretty days to every man

So as the days get warm and sunny
Thank winter
– Now isn’t that funny…

Its late I need sleep... so some facts on it.

catvacationneeded.jpg

Wow things have been supper busy as of late. Fun 13 hour days of work, public talks, NASA managers calling me at 10 PM. (Ya know someone has to save the space program jk) Editing wedding photos... getting ready for more wedding photos.

Ah and as I write this why aren't I in bed? Simple... the question was raised today... What is the longest someone has gone without sleep? So I must find this information before I head to bed.

The record:

-The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses.

I'm a person who needs 8 hours asleep to be happy and most alert (probably why I can't ever remember peoples names). So why is it different people can get by with different amounts of sleep? How much do you need?

Oh and while you're not sleeping ... read some more facts...

Some Quotes

I think I’ll get married next week, So I can get that meal again!

-Brandon leaving his sisters Wedding Rehearsal Dinner. (The Quail was pretty awesome!)

I love Hitler.

-Someone sitting next to me at a Belle and Sebastian Concert.

No the guy in The Tokyo Shirt, What song do you want to hear?

-Lead Singer of Belle and Sebastian callin me out in the audience for a request even though I was in the balcony. And someone else was tryin to answer instead of me.

No, We're not going to play that song.

-The Lead Singers response after he spent a good minute trying to hear my request for "This is Just a Modern Rock Song"

The Monopoly Championship... Come and Gone... Do Not Pass Go... Do Not Collect $200.

monopchamp.jpg

Results:

1st Round Winners
Alan Johnson (He went home and put his score sheet on the refrigerator)
Brent Priddy
Mark Wilson

2nd Round: (Composed of 1st and 2nd Place winners from 1st round)

3rd place: Emily Harper
2nd place: Darcie Myers
Champion: Mark Wilson

Well the first annual Monopoly championship has come and gone. And yes it now has been given the title first annual. As it turns out we only had a quorum this year, 15 contestants. However the two rounds of Monopoly goodness was exhilarating.

For those unfamiliar with the monopoly championship rules. (Ha or the monopoly rules in general). Here is a link to the tournament official rules. The main difference from any other Monopoly game, you have to play by the official rules, and rounds are 90 minutes long. (Yes I did just here a sigh of relief from the quasi Monopoly fans).

Upon Review of official rules things which are new to me

-Mortgage requires an extra 10% payback
-Once you are out of houses, no more can be sold
-Property is auctioned immediately if not desired by someone
-You can build or trade at any time
-You don't role again to determine the payment on utilities
-You can build houses and trade at any time, not just your turn

So there you have it, start practicing and prepare for next year..

So there you have it. The scores racked up, and in the end, the out of towners dominated this year’s game. So see you next year, get your trash talk ready, your ghetto properties loaded with hotels, and your dice throws practiced.

... And prepare for the Risk Championship this fall ...

Its that time of year...

irs_decoys.gif

So here I spent a day looking through all the tax laws understanding all the benefits of the long form and the reasons why software is truly needed to do your taxes. When all said and done I think taking the time to investigate all of this will be at least $500 to my benefit. Thank goodness for interest on houses. (Wait that made no sense... but in an odd way it does... the ol tax break for being in debt for a house... makes part of you want to be indebt and the other (more logical) side wanting everything paid for.

But anyways, as you know I'm out to help you. (That is what a civil servant is, correct?)

So here you go TaxAct2005, its free... its easy. and its fun! ok... not really but go-ahead and pretend yourself, you still have to do your taxes.

And speaking of doing your taxes... hey hurry and get those in, I need a paycheck so I can pay my taxes. Yes one of the peculiarities of my job.. I pay taxes to give the government money so they can pay me? Life is confusing (or is it misconstrued).
