Jen, Christine, n Haley Friday

DSCF0027 (Small).JPG

So if you are ever roaming the towns of California, and enjoying some of the great music which is so common to California, no doubt you shall run into Jen. Jen has a wonderful taste in music, and therefore is often found enjoying the greatness of such music. (I don’t think I’ve ever called anyone who told me they got whiplash at a Muse Concert). And where Jen is found, well Christine is never far behind, or vise versa... And Haley, well Haley is there lil sister, who I must say is one of the most intelligent hilarious little gals I've ever met!

Anyways, good times abound when I think back to the Jechristley days...
Last summer we enjoyed good times in the mountains of California. (their mom trusted me with the family SUV to drive ever one around... with such trust I had no choice but to drive nothing like myself). But good times abounded...and Haley and I even got some quality art time in!

No one I believe has a love of animals equivalent to Jen! She defnitly loves her dog, and Christine often makes fun of the fact Jen basically views her dog as a human. But its a sign of Jens good heart. (And Christines similarity in my thinking process).

Numero uno Jen story was the 2nd day I had met her, and we decide to hike Behind Yosemite falls, a half mile high waterfall... Yes we were far from being on the trail, and it was quiet like a hurricane. But hey I knew Jen was cool then.... as she cracked open a bottle of ensure?

I cant' say I've been to Hawaii with many people, nor to international conventions with many people. But Jen and Christine were there. So to them I bed a hello... and to all I state hope you meet them... and the them is for sure, because where one is found, both are found... and Haley well she's not to far behind often.

Creative Writing (Maybe one of the last ones?)

The Ringing of the Bells

I sit here listening to the ringing
of the bells of the bells

I sit here looking for the place to see
the bells all the bells

In my head I hear the ringing
of the bells of the bells

I ask the person next to me

What?

Only hear of the bells of the bells

What is it that brought this about
the bells all the bells

Permanent noise-induced hearing loss
the bells the stupid bells

I dont think they are hear
And I cant either.

Its here... and it was there...

Mason-Jennings-Century-Spring-cover.jpg

A couple of months ago Misconstrued headed up to Nashville to take in a show by Mason Jennings. Mason is a modern day Bob Dylan, with more singing ability. Check out our concert review page for the Misconstrued videos from the concert, and an interview with Mason.

Well Curiosa finally happens this week. Shall be spectacular with Nashville and Atlanta shows. Don't miss this oportunity.

Don't forget the great lineup!

Living Life as an Urban Legend...

birdblast.jpg

So last week I headed up to Tennessee (Tullahoma) to do some testing for shuttle. This took me to "the Chicken Canon".

That’s right the Chicken Canon, I had never heard of this item until the night before when someone brought up the fact they were talking about it on TV. (Some Canon that shoots birds at cockpits, which was built by nasa).

The weird thing was the next day I found myself working with this devise. True I was not shooting chickens. But using it none the less.

The legend says that British people were not smart enough to thaw the birds before they were shot. This is a legend though (See Snoops). Yet, everything else is true.

In the 70's the air force would shoot chickens (right after they killed them), at the canopy of jet planes. (I saw the canopies, and pictures of exploding birds). And yes this canon was once owned by nasa, not used to shoot birds, but shoot things to test for the Apollo missions.

So there you have it. Rumor of the day exposed. And strange day at work for me, explained.

Here is an article from the 50's and 60's with pictures of exploding Chickens, Great Stuff

Heres some facts on the cannon.

But for the latest chicken cannon engineering information, see this page. (and it seems no longer do they use real chickens for all the chicken lovers).

Here is some more great info... more on the orginal facility.

Juice Mouse Zero Friday

Well this weeks "special" person is Juice Mouse Zero, one of the few rock stars I know. Juice and I have been friends for a while, and I even went up to New York last year to check him out as he played a festival in the city. I must say it was rather entertaining.

jmz (Small).jpg

Another Vain and Shallow Moment for the Rock Star JMZ, notice the paparazzi all around him.

But Juice Mouse Zero is just the cover up name for the real person behind the music Stockholm Reinbock III. If it wasn't for the fact that this guy produced such talented music, well I doubt I would really hang with him. His show antics have created quiet the stir. Recently Rolling Stone stated

"JMZ may be a lame guy, but put him on stage, and he's a lame guy thats a few feet higher than everyone else. But somehow JMZ overcomes this, we attribute it to the fact he usually throws large bills into the crowd during the show. No one has put a stage act like on since the late Wesley Willis".

The good news, JMZ has released his latest EP on Misconstrued Records. You've heard him before and one of the tracks on the Misconstrued Album. However JMZ new EP is a real masterpiece. It shines on most all songs, being a little weak in the opening. But songs such as Abstract Math and The Pseudo-Lamentations of the Musaceae are solid rock songs. He even shines on the techo/rock based A Spark Neglected Burns the House. (It will remind you of Bside Radiohead). I recommend you look at getting this EP, along with the misconstrued album. Overall the sound is a cross of Incubus with the Jam moments of Phish.

An amazing opportunity is purchase of the Special Edition of the CD. The price may be steep, but it includes a special performance at your house, and its been reported also that JMZ will shave his head and eat the shavings while on fire during the performance. He will also work for free for you for a year, doing most anything.

Anyway, JMZ... a bit sperratic, erratic, dramatic. But a great artist with a great new EP The Pseudo-Lamentations of the Musaceae.

I have what in my Hair?

cleanntrim.jpg

Well this weekend took me to the mountains of Tennessee for a little camping. I must say I was very happy to get out and enjoy some camping relaxation, it had been awhile. Nothing really like it... thats for sure.

But as always, we packed in a multitude of activities. Everyone was overjoyed to make a trip over to the Natahalla for a float down the river. Ben Was so happy he ended up giving Jason a big hug. However I must admit I questioned the logic of not rafting, but swimming. The Water in the Natahalla is so Morbid cold, that the decision to jump off rocks, was a dismal choice... we are not talking freezing, we're talking shear pain. Of course we had the hardest working raft on the river as you see here. The best choice of the day was when we decided to raft a while with our eyes closed, I believe that group of Orientals we rammed into wasnt expecting to see a boat full of people rush into them with no one in the boat even looking. (although equally exciting was the rapid we went through with all standing was entertaining too...)

No of course there were other antics, which included gummy bear wars. A little moisture and a gummy bear has the ability to stick to anything.

But definitely one of the highlights of the trip was the mud fight, down deep within a cave. (See Picture above). Nothing like the shear pleasure of getting right out completely muddy. Good times good times. When all the votes were in, Kathyrn and Ron won the best mudded award.

35 years ago today...

rckmn.jpg

As I stand here in my Smock... ready to tackle another day of rocket science... well... I stop and reflect back.

It was 35 years ago today that Neil Armstrong took those first steps on the moon, describing that it was one giant leap, one small step. Since that day, man has questioned weather it has happened, or better put where it happened. However after working here at NASA for 3 years I have to recount that things are obvious...

this is a government entity... meaning: lots of money is available (lots of resources=anything is possible, it also means inefficiency).

many impossible things are done in technology... meaning: there are so many things that blow my mind as to how they work (cell phones, computers, refrigerator lights). Going to the moon is quiet doable.

no matter what you say some people will never believe you... meaning: some people still believe the earth is flat. Some people still believe Elvis is alive, Some people believe man never went to the moon.

So with those obvious points, I conclude that despite what some say, we are looking at the 35th anniversary of man on the moon. What I find odd... it will take another 15 years for us to get there again.

So what do you think?

Neil Armstrong: Astronaut or Actor?

Discuss....

An Important Exploration Anniversary

Thirty-five years ago on July 20, 1969, people throughout the world looked up at the moon with awe and wonder, knowing for the first time in history that brave explorers had set foot on an extraterrestrial body.

The Apollo 11 mission marked the successful accomplishment of a bold national goal by NASA's first generation of explorers. NASA is commemorating the epic voyage of Apollo 11 this week with special programming on NASA TV and on our Web site (http://www.nasa.gov), and this evening with a Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum reception featuring Apollo 11 crew members Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin, as well as other astronaut heroes from the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. We owe so much to these pioneering explorers and to the dedicated NASA and contractor employees who made their journeys possible.

During this evening's tribute, we will have occasion to honor the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts and surviving spouses in attendance by designating them, as well as America's long-time honorary astronaut, Walter Cronkite, as NASA's "Ambassadors of Exploration." Each will be presented a sample from the 842 pounds of moon rocks and soil returned during the six lunar expeditions from 1969 to 1972. In turn, our new Ambassadors of Exploration will present these priceless samples on loan from NASA to a museum or school of their choice. The samples will be prominently displayed in order to inspire dreams of space travel in a new generation of explorers.

July 20 is also a red-letter date in the history of robotic exploration. On this day in 1976, shortly after our nation's bicentennial, the Viking 1 spacecraft landed on the surface of Mars and began in earnest the search for life beyond Earth. We are equally indebted to the architects of our planetary exploration program for ensuring that the science conducted by NASA is always daring.

As proud as we are of our storied past, we are even more excited about the exploration opportunities of the present and future. A promising new century of exploration and discovery is underway, with our sights now set on sending a combination of human pioneers and robotic explorers throughout the solar system. Our aim, just as with Project Apollo, is to go in peace for all mankind, seeking to answer profound questions and to develop breakthrough technologies that will improve life here on Earth. As this incredible journey unfolds, I am very proud that NASA will be leading the way. The Eagle has landed. The Eagle is taking flight.

This is OURS day...

00326811 (WinCE).jpg

Great news... (and as you know good music=great news) [assuming the normal curse does not befall me]

Anyway, Ours (the music group) is now planning a tour, and this tour will include stops in Nashville 8/14, and Atlanta 8/13. So DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW. Last year at Field Day, seeing there 6 song set, was a highlight of the show. There are few groups that have the passion that this group can implore upon a crowd such passion with light and darkness (notice the veins popping out of the lead singers face above) So Listen to there tunes a bit... Check out the tour dates, and get ready for OURS, definitely a don't miss concert event!

Luke 7:16 Friday

luke.JPG

Ah Luke, we all knew the Friday would come sooner or later. And why not, I mean who is more easy going and likable than Luke? I met/got to know Luke when I lived in Knoxville, we went to the same hall. And since Luke is amused by many things, much like myself, well we got along just swell.

Of course when you think Luke of course you always think car, sunglasses, never ending conversation, and that pocket knife he always has just a reach away. But a good guy ol luke is....

...and he's always up for anything. As you see in the picture above, it may be that he comes down to bama these days, and we end up in the never ending tunnels beneath the surface of Huntsville. Or we may be geocaching, painting decks, or some random activity inbetween. (Of course he's only been my son once in my life... and that was when I was looking for a house in Huntsville (wait I think thats like the first time he went out of state too... oops and I forgot to tell his parents).

Anyways, on whatever Friday it is, you always have to recount a memorable story. Of course there is always the quote I'll never forget. This flour in my eyes, I cant see! (See flour power).

But as for stories, well right before I left Knoxville, a bunch of us went camping up at a lake in the mountains.... Luke was in the back of Nathan’s car, and well the road up to the mountains was extremely curvy to say the least... and we were making good time to say the least. And well.... Luke (or as we called him since that point Puke)... never mentioned he was getting extremely car sick). Finally they caught up with us and recounted the story. As for other stories from that trip.... well we wont go there.

Anyway, Leave your stories about Luke.... on Luke Friday

A change...

can.JPG

Well after 6 weeks of not living in my home, I have returned, and I must say I am glad to be home. With Le Jud returning to the great north, and also a celebration of me actually keeping the site up and going again, today is a photography special day.

The photo section of the site, has been updated with pictures from Canada, particularly British Columbia, pictures I took a couple of years ago. So enjoy the pictures, learn what canada is like, and plan your own trip! And just in case you plan that trip, don't forget this guide which will help you understand the Canadian Culture. Very American/strangely European. But a beautiful country (check out the article on Prince Edward Island, the garden jewel of candada (although victoria will give it a run for its money).

Anyway, enjoy the pictures, and to help you in your quest for the perfect picture enjoy the following!

Expounding from yesterdays Lesson...

lit.JPG

Ah the paragraph yesterday on light brought back a myriad of convulsive thoughts as I thought back to the days of modern physics in college. What the paragraph described as lacking in understanding was oh so true.

There are therefore now two theories of light, both indispensable, and - as one must admit today in spite of twenty years of tremendous effort on the part of theoretical physicists - without any logical connections
-Albert Einstein.

Neils Bohr back in the two's presented the fact that light acts both as particles, and as waves. And even in colleges today, it is taught that light is much like a particle, much like a wave.

Example:

Light acts as a particle when it strikes certain materials, freeing electrons from their bonds. (Shows light works in discrete packets (photons).)

Light acts as a wave (very often) and is usually the first model used for light... this is why you see interference patterns when light travels through a slit pattern. (This is basic High School Physics... but if you want to see it beyond that level... well enjoy the math.).

Learn more (than you ever wanted too...) in this nice presentation...

Today this is all described as quantum electrodynamics. A quick search for this area defined to clear it up for you is found here:

Does that make you shudder? It should. The statement that quantum mechanics is easier to solve than quantum electrodynamics just makes me sick to my stomach (for i must admit the first time I was truly confused in college was trying to solve Quantum mechanics problems in Graduate School (Modern Mathematical Methods of Modern Physics).

So in the end, while there are equations out there that explain alot of the nature of light... the theories are so confusing, well lets just be glad we can see, without having to prove why.

A Sobering Reflection...

So been working on my talk for tomorrow in which I explore how messed up the world is physically. So it no doubt sounds disturbing, but if you want encouraged, come visit the West Cong Tomorrow Afternoon and learn why "The Earth Will Remain Forever"

for those who need a reason to question consider:

The world population continues to grow (see on this site the real time number of people on eartH) Most of this growth in the next 50 years will be in third world countries leading to more problems for man.

Man has already brought over 500 species to extinction, and presently 12,000 are now endangered. (See the official list and data here). 24% of mammals are threatened, 11% of birds; and in the last 3 years there has been a 17% increase in the number of threatened plants on earth.

But most problems on earth are simply unknown, for instance although there are 80,000 chemicals used in the US often, only 1500 have been tested for carcinogens. Another example: Chernobyl is still in debate on how it has effected mankind.

Want to hear more? See ya tomorrow.

Alex Friday... In Stereo...

genBoneyMalone (Small).jpeg

Well here we go a first... a duo day for one person. Alex who has found a day on TKF, as well as Misconstruedthoughts... with the beauty of back dating you can see though that we were first. (I do the same thing with my milk). Anyways....

Yes Alex, the AL of the Lex... anyway. All you have to do is meet Alex once, see his quirky grin, and know there is something non typical going on behind those glasses. And here lies what makes an interesting person? correct? I think so.

You may remember Alex from Sunday Daily Text at the convention.... (he was the one who fell down the stairs right behind the stage, for which they had to stop the convention) (OK, I'm only assuming this, I was busy working the sound, so I'm just assuming this took place). But anyway, yeah Alex, a purveyor of good music, and a progeny of someone who collects butterflies. Oh and he's quiet the cinematographer... I've seen some great work of his involving ants! What else do you need?

OK, I agree we all need a trip to Aruba.

Leave your stories... and read others in the late post on the TKF.

Also I was just contacted by Alex, and he has setup a wonderful deal for all of us. Free Slurpies at 7/11 on the llth of July. So go buy and Say Alex sent you, its a great deal! Thanks Alex for using your connections. (BTW if you are confused at the picture above, Alex was suffering a terrible brain freeze).

Passsing on Traditions...

Picture269 (Small).jpg

Well as Tuesday came and went, my friends visit from Canada continued much like it arrived, with them living in Huntsville, and I on the way out. It really odd when people visit and they get there before you do, and leave after you do. But oh well... seems to be the life I live right now (temporary hopefully). Soon I will return to being a local.

But yes before they left we had to share some of the more intriguing games we have learned here in the south. You know those games that you can only play once in you life... and then ... well you are "in".

So before Le Jud passed back on to the great north, we shared classics like, Booga Booga Boo; Hug the Pot Holder; Mr. Macintosh: among others. One thing is sure: they now have an arsenal of tricks to pull out of the bag on the rest of those Canucks.

So if you are confused, and never played these games; well dont ask: your day is coming. And for the rest of us, we'll keep laughing.

Released... Enjoyed.

The official release brought a great festivity Saturday night as people rushed to get their copy. Actually, people fought in great excitement to obtain their own copy. JMZ who was at the release described it as "Crazy".

A later release festivity on Sunday did not bring the excitement in droves. And their was a decrease in the overall fear produced in the room. The music has been found to drive the multitudes to playing dodgeball, as well as to towl snapping contest which leaves wounds/gashes/etc.

Lull (aka DA Delia) was also present for a life perfomance with ADGI. The crowd was amazed by the grace with which the music was presented. The opening act of Bouybee Uybee was not welcome with as much appreciation which could be the reason for the lack of his presenece on the misconstrued album.

To all those who have not yet been able to enjoy this album of the misconstrued viewers (played by them, made by them, for them)....rush out and get your copy.

Joshua Gill Friday

IMG_8697 (Small).jpg

So last week I had a good visit in New York City. Included in the visit was finally the meeting of Joshua. Yes, the brother of Nathan. (OK sorry already Josh, I mean Nathan is Josh's brother... er uh anyway). So yeah I kept calling Josh Nathan, because the two are just alike (Ok, sorry both of you know, for I have already been denounced by each of you for this statement).

Anyways... for real... Josh is a super cool guy. He took me to some off the better parts of the city. Enjoying some great eats, walking through a monsoon in china town. Good times good times, alls it takes is a crazy person to have fun. Right? (For those confused at this point as to the crazy person is Josh, or myself... well lets just say you need to meet Josh (And Josh... of course I'm talking about myself).

But the adventure in the city was one captured on fillm. You see, I was walking through the park and saw this guy hanging in a tree. As I saw him hanging there, I thought OK, I'm headed into the streets of New York, the best protection from crazy people are crazier people right? So me and Uxbynx (thats his real name, I'm just calling him Josh to make it easier...) headed into the city. As we jumped on the subway, I felt we were being followed. Little did I know we truly were. True I had found a local to show me around, but seems he was an unobservant, local. For later my developed film showed what had happened. Yes New York had gotten the best of ol Josh. But he was quick on the draw and a chase ensued. Soon he caught the young pickpocket. And after a quick pummel of the boy, and a great display of his victory
(and the return of the $2 in his bilfold (for he is a bethalite)). After this we returned home. And I left New York, and Josh remained to provide rides for the governing body to the airport.

A Movie Review... What? It rarely comes...

spid.jpg

Well believe it or not I went to a movie last night. (The first since X-Men 2 (which was a really good movie)

This time I saw Spider Man 2 to be exact. And well I have to admit my dissatisfaction of Comic Movies Continues. I have always been a Marvel Comics fan. And honestly the best part of the Spider Man 2 movie was the opening credits with the impressively coordinated Marvel Comic logo, and the Spiderman comic images/and score.

But you ask why Jeremy? Well everyone (most everyone) liked the movie. But I found it a struggle since it was once again such a predictable movie. The only things that were not predictable is when they chose to fix some eternal problem, in a illogical, impossible way. (Impossible being used beyond the world of superheroes). Remember superheroes live in our world, so the physics of the world shouldn’t change. Just what is possible for the superhero.

So this brings us to the next problem, I'm an engineer, I analyze, I figure out. (Which 95% of the movie can be figured out a few minutes before it happens). (Even 30% of the exact lines could be guessed before they were said). So I blame the curse of being an engineer on maybe my lack of interest in the movie. (But it did allow me to know what Eigenvalues are during the class scene).

So final thought:
Overall clean movie: Yes
Good Plot: No (Predictable)
Good Directing: Yes/No
Cinematography: Yes
Acting: No (Toby Keith is a bad country singer, other Toby's such as Spider Man shouldn’t be superheroes. How can one guy be so lame until he puts on a spandex suit?)
Humor: (Didn’t need to be in the movie in a blatant form)

(Someone explain why Spidey made an actual spiderweb to talk to Mary Jane on?) A steal one none the less... I have you caught in my Web Mary Jane... there is no escape... now kiss me.

Final Score:
If you liked Spider Man 1 you'll like Spider Man 2. If you almost liked spider man 1 you'll like Spider Man 2.

Rating: 2.5 Stars of 5.

OK so now I've Riled the masses, feel free to give your review.
