College Football? What?
Yes its a rare moment.. its time for a football post. I have to say I'm not much a football person, or sport person being raised in a non Sport Influence house... we instead did math for fun, learned how to safely and scientifically blow up stuff, and learn how to do experiments with electricity...
However I was raised in East Tennessee, and anyone who has ever been to East Tennessee. When fall comes there is only one thing that is everywhere. Bright ugly Orange (I am a VOL fan by the way).
A few facts:
1) The SEC is one of the toughest if not the toughest league out there, most all the SEC teams deserve respect and often earn it.
2) You never know what will happen in college football. (Look at the last week as Alabama crushed Florida, and Tennessee skimmed by LSU... and basically the poles are all up in shambles).
3) College Football leads to some crazy fans with extreme zeal and deep thoughts. (No doubt comments will reflect this).
As a Tennessee fan, I now feel there is a glimmer of hope for the season. But the truth is Georgian next week and Alabama the following week will seal the truth of Tennessee. At least Tennessee has a definite quarterback now....
But what are rankings anyway? (See the Rankings) As we have seen so far this year who ever is on top is soon to fall... therefore Tennessee seems to be in a good position by losing early. (Strange logic)....Yes, your thoughts?

Finally!!! A post that I can comment on. But I only got one thing to really say.
ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!

Roll Tide???? Go Irish!!! I'll give Bama props though. They look darn good. But the loss of Prothro is going to hurt. But how bout my Irish? If we could put two halves of football together we might be okay. And stiffen up on D. We got Tennessee at home this year too (11/5). The Vols got it rough this season. Tough schedule.
Notre Dame has got a good coach finally. And we do have touchdown Jesus. I mean, come on, you can't beat King of kings.

I must agree bama did look good. It seems to me that the vols play the usual vol kinda season. They win many big games but lose a stupid one somwhere along the way. And it is best to lose early if you are gonna lose. But even though I dont like gator, they did have an exceptionally bad game, not just bama being awesome. Oh and what more can you say about Charlie Weiss, he's awesome. By the way Prothro is awesome to, I thought the catch he made a few weeks ago when he pinned the ball on the back of the defenders helmut was probably the best play i've ever seen. Anyway go VOLS

Prothro was a loss but Bama still has got its weapons. Like when Keith Brown caught a 10 yard slant pass and outraced the entire Florida secondary for a 65 yard touchdown. Prothro's backup, DJ Hall, set the state record for punt returns for touchdown while in high school. So don't count us out yet. Besides defense wins championships and we got an awesome D.

Yeah, this post brought me back... Go Seminoles!!! If our QB can keep maturing, like he's doing, we have a chance to go a little higher. Glad to see Bama beat Florida, though (I cannot believe I just said that). If Bama can do it, we can do it... and they're really the only tough one we have left - aside from the ACC title game... Oh, and speaking of that, give us a few years and the ACC will be right up there with the SEC. We have too much talent, and too many good schools. Look at all the ACC teams in the top 25: Virginia Tech, Florida State, Miami, Boston College, Georgia Tech. Virginia just dropped and Clemson was in there for a while. Obviously not the SEC or Big Ten, but we'll be close to giving them a run in a few years...

Uh, go Georgia Tech. . .yeah, that's right, Georgia Tech. Reggie Ball is going to be a good pro quarterback someday.

I am a devout SEC fan. Although my Kentucky Wildcats are a laughing-stock in football, I still cheer for them. At least until basketball season, I have to pull for the SEC schools come bowl season. It's a nice thought to think of a scientific way to rank teams, but the BCS is a joke. It doesn't work. Just ask Auburn. Although science supports most avenues of life, the area of sports is not a place to calculate the skill of a team by using mathematic variable. Why can't they just go back to the old way of ranking teams: common sense. How about letting the best two teams play for the championship or use a playoff format for the best 8 teams. SEC teams do not get the credit of playing a grueling schedule week after week that I think they deserve. The announcers would rather talk about Florida State, USC, Miami, Oklahoma, and Texas. Good though they may be, if you put any one of those teams in the SEC, their mediocre. Ya heard! Go SEC.

Don't get me started on the BCS. I hate that stupid system. And as much heat as it is always taking, I think it is only a matter of time before we see a playoff system in college football. It'll be a long time coming too. I think the BCS formula could still be used to determine the top 8 teams to put into an 8 team playoff (or even just 4 teams. I mean, not too many teams out of the top 5 have a chance anyways). Other teams could still play in any one of the 8000 bowls games available now (Jerm, you should sponser a bowl game - The Misconstruedthoughts.com Bowl). And you could still call the championship game the Sugar Bowl or Fiesta or whatever. Just have a rotating system of the big five bowls.

football is cool and everything....but tonight is the first NHL game of the year! (It's exciting for us Canadians who have gone a whole year without it.)

we actually had that discussion Tommy and I ... I stated hockey fans are the only ones crazier than college football fans..

Not just any hockey fans..but Vancouver hockey fans. There is a group of us getting together tonight you'll most likely hear us from there. Oh..and Ana wear your Bertuzzi shirt tonight;)
