Google Goes Public x2...

Well it appears google hopes to raise another 4 billion. I have to say I think this stock is way over valued. But thanks to all those who have sunk there money into this giant, we have many cool tools. For example:
Google maps now has a hybrid button so you can see overlays of satelite photos with the maps as well.
Google Desktop, keep up with all the documents you can't find. My search time at work for a document went from 15 minutes to 15 seconds, amazing!
Google Toolbar.. search online quicker than ever! Nothing touches this! Translate, spell check etc.
Google will even suck the life out of your computer for the good of mankind!
And you can even google with your cell phone!
and more coming all the time...
So don't forget to make the most of other peoples money. Google yourself to death... or to knowledge.
Comments
Is the stock really over priced? I actually don't agree. Now one might think, "$300 a share is too high for a stock! Why don't they split it?" But I think it's good they don't. It keeps the real investors who are interested in internet stocks (and who know what they are doing) buying the stock, and it keeps those who just want to "play around" with the stock market from buying. But that's just my opinion.*
*that's my disclaimer

I'm just saying the PE ratio is rather high for both google and yahoo... both in the 70's.
Its not logical to think google can grow to keep up with expectations.
Its all like the late 90's the bubble will burst. To much competition.. Microsoft, Yahoo...etc... google lives in a rough world. Although they do reign supremee of the search wars presently.

yeah but i think if you lower the price the bubble will burst sooner than you think

Oh I agree... but the question is... sooner or later it will bust... the addition of stocks i think will effectively lower it.

Yeah but I think it's more about control...the company wants to control who their stockholders are, so they keep the price high

Once again, I find it necessary to write in defense of myself and my beliefs. For openers, even if one is opposed to contentious, filthy insurrectionism (and I am), then surely, Google can't possibly believe that it is a martyr for freedom and a victim of sensationalism. It's stupid, but it's not that stupid. As everyone who has access to reliable information knows, Google's taradiddles will have consequences -- very serious consequences. And we ought to begin doing something about that. When I first heard about Google's contrivances, I didn't know whether to laugh, because Google's memoirs are so pathological, or cry, because I can easily see Google performing the following confused acts. First, it will add insult to injury. Then, it will have a serious destabilizing effect on our institutions. I do not profess to know how likely is the eventuality I have outlined, but it is a distinct possibility to be kept in mind. Given the tenor of our times, Google hates you -- yes, you, because you, like me, want to justify condemnation, constructive criticism, and ridicule of Google and its cocky, unbridled prognoses. All in all, I realize that this letter has seemed incredibly bleak. However, expecting the worst from Google means we will never be disappointed. If we're wrong and Google does not try to take the focus off the real issues, we'll be relieved. If we're right and it does, we'll be prepared.

You have forgotten THE coolest thing Google provides, Google Earth, a 3-d map of the entire globe based on contour lines. Even a few major cities have the buildings in 3-D so you can do a fly thru of the city.

yes i agree that is cool... you do have to pay for it... but it is cool... i own it.

First, I applaud you Captain Jon. You have taken the English language and used it to eloquently say precisely what you know. Kudos. Also, Google, like an aging dog, is as cool as its last trick. If they can continue providing useful services that people want, they will expand. The problem is they are an aging dog in a kennel full of growing pups. They must beat the puppies to all the tricks, as well as continuously streamlining and remembering the old ones. In short, Google has to continue to innovate, if not trailblaze, in its field. Which is why I have to agree with Jeremy. They are heading towards an ultimate mediocrity. And unfortunately, in their business, mediocrity and plateaus never end well. Ask lycos.
