Oompa Loompa What did they do?

VS

So this weekend I went and saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The original is one of the most disturbing children films of all time, and therefore holds a special place in my heart. Would the new one meet and beat this? Well my hopes were up as it was described as a dark film. Was it? Well I never thought it was nearly as dark as the original. In the Original Willy Wonka was scary because he was, well just a little off, in the new one he is supposed to be scary because he is insecure having flashbacks to childhood. This does explain things, but takes away from him actually being scary.
Yet what really takes this to the top of not being what it should be two things: The tunnel ride was not nearly as scary as the original (the original still trips me out). And the music. The music, the songs is not nearly as frightening as the original. Maybe it is the 60's psychedelia which made the original more trippy...
But for all who say this is a darker film, I disagree. Highly disagree.
Funniest part of the movie... when they have a cow hung up being whipped with, well whips... and its explained they are making whipped cream. We needed more moments like that.
So there you go... save your money go rent the original and get the oompa loopma song stuck in your head again.
My goal: To create a techno album with excerpts from the original and that will go with the movie... Kinda like Dark Side of the moon with Wizard of Oz.
So, who wants in on the album creation... and who agrees disagrees on the new Willy Wonka?

Uh, maybe it was scary because at the time of the original, you were a kid, as opposed to being a grown man now? I think we should take a young child to see it, and then show them the original in the same setting, and see which carries the most weight. Just to be fair, of course. So, who's with me on scaring little kids?

it does sound like an interesting study... but honestly I still didn't find it as disturbing... i've seen willy wonka as an adult it still trips me out... maybe its just residual fear? I dunno.

I was actually quite angry about the songs that the ompa lompas sang. Plus they did not even go with the same theme, they made them like pygmies, and not midgets!!! what is up with that, there must have been a bunch of out of work midget actors that could have had a job like they did back with the original.
Jerm, I am miffed too. and yes the original tunnel scene was a bit scary.
the original eat everything around you, even the grass scene was better in the original
The best part was left out too: the Half a room... room
everything was half of something (hey javann how could you attempt vulturing on the half-a-toilet?)

i just got back from taking my nephew to that today...from the words of a kid, he thought this willy wonka was creepier...the old one was just weird. He liked it....i didn't think it was all that bad either.

Well there ya go... mark one up for the new one.. .maybe that means I more ataken back by the weird instead of the creepy. This opens up a whole new can of worms. Why would that be? I tend to be a logical person, would a weird person more confuse me because they are odd... than a creepy person... a person whos way of peculiarity could be pinpointed and understood?
I'm Starting to sound like Javann

I have been looking forward to seeing this new version for some time now...I have to admit I was a bit upset that they were going to remake it...I mean Willy Wonka is a classic...one of my favorites, yes its creepy sometimes, but as a kid I just absolutely loved it (and to this day, still do)...does that make me disturbed? haha
Anyway, I haven't seen it yet, but I am curious to know if this new version is more like the book?
