What is youth?
Is the key to being a kid, feeling like a kid... simply acting like a kid? In many ways I would say yes. As adults we often do things which are repetitive, common place, always the same. Example:
Compare baseball (rules structure always the same) with Calvin Ball (Always changing minute by minute).
I hurt myself about a week ago running. It was week three. And I think it might be the repetitive non changing pattern of running. (Not very exciting). However yesterday I still played with a group of kids. They chased me around the yard, I hid from them, they tackled me, wrestled me down, etc. In reality I was one of the kids, just a bit taller... (and my mom wasn't there to get the stains out of my pants last night... (I had to do that... and well... hmm I think I ruined them). But today actually my leg feels better than it has in a week n a half. Why? I think its because youth is associated with the free spirit of being a youth. Is the fountain of youth just being a youth? True we all have to grow up, but that doesn't keep you from being a kid with the kids.
So go find a kid, and be a kid... and maybe those pains in your back or your legs will disappear?

This reminds me of that time my dad was throwing the football with us and almost face planted running toward a shortly thrown ball. He might of felt young but his muscles soon brought him to the reality of the situation. Not to take all the air out of the theory of mind of matter; be young, act young, feel young and you are young. Because I'm sure that there is some validity to the statement. A common Western saying is "you are only as old as you feel." And so feeling young would help. But there comes a time in life when feeling the pains of old age overcome feeling exhuberance of youth. I guess this post is kind of a downer, esp. for those getting up there in age. So, I'll wrap up with a positive but realistic thought. Always be a kid at heart but the heart is treacherous so listen to what your body tells you is possible.

I have always had a theory about energy and the volume of the human body (no weight jokes in this, I am kinda serious). When you are young, small, you can go for hours and when you grow up, getting bigger, you loose the ability to "play" all day. I have also thought about age, when you go over "the hill" your energy starts to weign just like your skin's elisity and in men's case hair. You are born with a certain constant amount of energy that is dispersed over the volume of your body, as you get bigger you burn off the energy quicker then if you were smaller.
Think of the following types of small people:
kids
skinny people
short people
and now think about larger people, like Javann (sorry Javann)
So I have come up with an equation that supports my theory, plugin and see...
the energy density equation is:
Energy density in your body
Be = Eb / body volume
Eb is the peek steaty state energy that you get when you are born (varies for some people, but for the most part is constant) this is 1.6667Jft^3
the average human's body volume is your weight devided by 0.001kg/cm^3.
mine is (153 pounds) / (0.001 (kg / (cm^3))) = 2.4508249 ft^3 or 69.3996326 liters that is a lot of coke bottles...
my Eb is 0.68004328Joules
the time that you can play (Tp) is:
Tp = Be * X *(1 + (23/age)*U(age - 30))/ (1 + (age^4/1000000years)*U(age - 30))
where X is the handy dandy constant of the body mass energy equation. in (5.88197857hours/Joules)
and U() is the unit step function
my Tp is (5.88197857*1.66667/2.4)/(1+ 0) = 4.08471551hours
if i were 30
Tp = (5.88197857*1.66667/2.4)*(1 + 23/30))/(1+ (30^4)/1000000) = 3.98692306hours
it is rough getting over the hill
and when I am 70
Tp = (5.88197857*1.66667/2.4)*(1 + 23/70))/(1+ (70^4)/1000000) = 0.21hours
I am not 70 yet, so we will have to see if the theory holds out
the graph of Tp in relation to time kind of falls off sharply after 30, as most older people can attest to...
try it out for yourselves!
use google's search to compute your Volume
enter "153lbs/(0.001 kg/cm^3) in ft^3" just change the weight, and then all you have to do is put that in the equation for Tp above (just replace 2.4 with your volume in ft^3)
if you want to see your weight in liters, just leave off the "in ft^3"

Jerm, did you have any leg hair left after that girl was pulling them out?
Posted by: Priddy the hut | April 18, 2005 02:49 PM
yeah fortuntatly i am used to it... my little cousin used to do the same he always said "you're like a monkey".
Now my only question which has a large basis on your equation... how do you come up with the constant value? and why is it a static number would a dynamic model prove a better model... I think testing is the only way to verify. The government is bound to pay for the research. (would probably be of interest to them). If they'll pay people to write documents on carrots, well they'll do bout anything).
So we need a common (kid like) activity for various age groups to take part in and see how long they last (till they are tired) and see how long they last (time until they are annoyed) (thats probably a diffenrt equatino but we should just collect data on it).
I believe water"gun" fights are the best tool for this testing.

i agree...things aren't the same when ya' start gettin up in years and yep you sure have responsibilities to take care of...but its the way you respond when em' curve balls are thrown at cha'...i'm one that doesn't know when to say no as far FUN & beneficial physical activity especially to rid of stress in life but i'm learning (its awesome to challenge yourself)...but being kid at heart helps me much on having a positive outlook in life and aint no way i could do without humor...gotta have it!!!
oh and mr. jerm cross-training on a bike a day or 2 has always helped me with running injuries that way you keep em' legs strengthened just do over do it, but i've heard that rollerblading aint 2 good something about the different muscles in use, so be like Kip after your race

oops! whoa that was DONT over do it!!! dont irritate that muscle.
sawry bout' that
