This is for the Birds...
.jpg)
Well last night we watch The Birds. A classic film. But I now question that classic location in the sphere of history. My history with the birds goes back to my childhood. I was in 1st or 2nd Grade, at home with the chicken pox... laying on the couch (Yes the same couches which now grace my house... those that many of you so whole heartily hate)... there I lay in pain, and my Older Sister starts watching the Birds. Now that I've seen it again, I realize the perils that ensued for me. But I couldn't escape. (the bad part). Even though I hid my head under my pillow, it was a traumatic experience.
And now that I've seen it again. I must say one thing... not much substance to the movie. Constantly we asked. "Why are the people leaving the house again?"
And the ending... well I'm OK with open ended movies, but this one wasn't even ready to be open ended. Now I realize it is the people who liked this movie and called it a classic that probably enjoyed going to see The Village, one of the dumbest movies I've seen at the Drive In.

The Birds is a classic, i love it when you can catch seeing an obviously fake bird on a stick
As for the village, sounds like you made the same mistake i did, seeing it at the drive in, i thought it would add to the movie but instead it just took all the substance out of it, it would have been much better in the theater where you can hear all the sounds, and not the rednecks down 3 cars cracking their beers open. not to mention i had the movie figured out half way through it.

yeah it was just stupid... no the sound was awesome ... we were in the back of the 6... with the bose goin...

You want to see a good Hitchcock film see North by Nothwest. That one's much better. It's got that great scene of Cary Grant in the corn field getting chased by the airplane.
...oh and it's not so much a hatred, just a strong dislike of the couches

Good I'm glad you sat through something boring just like I had to Sunday night. Pretty sad when I'm sitting there wishing I didn't turn in my log so I could work instead of waisting my time with the movie.
Funny about two weeks ago I was talking to Kevin about the birds (he never saw it)and how stupid it was.

I saw the Village in a theatre. trust me, it doesn't make it any more bearable. Half of me wanted to leave, but the other half told me how much i just spent on a lousy ticket.

Interesting subject for the day. One of my favorite movies, although special effects at the time were state of the art, kind of cheesy now. Anyway, for trivia buffs, there really is a town in Northern California called Bodega Bay where all the outside shots were filmed. The Old Potter Schoolhouse is the only structure left still standing since the filming. It was Hitchcock's first horror/fantasy film and he was inspired to make it from reading Daphne du Maurier's short story called "The Birds". Also, Hitchcock made a "cameo" in everyone one of his films. In The Birds you see him coming out of the pet shop as a customer in the beginning of the film. One of the fun things about watching Hitchcock films is looking for him. Must have been the inspiration for "Where's Waldo".

thats interesting leann - i was always really into 'where's waldo' until i actually found waldo...cause once you find him, your eyes are magnetized to him and he's pretty much all you can look at,
i was more interested in examing the couple setting up their umprella on the beach, or the man falling off the ski lift. . . waldo kind of ruined that for me.

I always enjoyed the conventions when you choose someone to be the "waldo" of the convention. You know the lady with the bright red heair, the guy with the silver suit, the brother wearing the authentic african garb, the kid wearing the white shorts.etc.... then random times during intermission you had everyone search for them.

I never did like those books truth be told. Part of me was always thinking, "Is Waldo being lost really such a bad thing?" Look at him. He's always by himself. There's a reason for that. Waldo's not much fun. All he does is get lost and crowds and then laugh at you until you find him.

Right. Waldo laughs at you. I'm sure he does Javann. And what about the gnomes? Do they laugh at you, too?

Its funny you speak of this movie because i had a disscusion with my parents about this movie because they are going to where they shot the film to make the birds which is in Bodega Bay just thought id tell you.

I loved this movie, say it on cable back in '97. It was doggoned creepy. I personally thought the ending, while cryptic, served the film well as the birds came as mysteriously as their provoked rage...a random vent of nature. Better than the army fighting the birds back into submission at the end ya know? :p

This movie was actually one of my least favorite Hitchcock Films. I love Alfred he is one of the best classic director's but this movie sucked. He should have made the birds a little more real and the old lady in the coffee shop more calm. She scared me!!!

Yeah you know its funny, a lot of people didnt like the Village, but as predictable as it was I thought it was really moving. And it just seemed that just because one person said that they didnt like it,everyone followed. But I guess Im just different.
