I don't know what it is about it...

So now I have been pegged "Jeremy" the guy who recomends you see Napoleon Dynamite. As I drove up to the meeting, someone calls out the window. People in Morristown were talking about you ... a movie you recomend. Then I head over to a friends house who declares "That was no where as good as Dumb and Dumber like you said".
Well I performed the final test. To see if there are any genes in my family related to mine. They did all watch the movie. My dad declared only two scenes funny the cow scene and the time machine scene. And my mom wanted to know what was wrong with me (Well me and Mike... we were both laughing hysterically... well except for the dance scene where mom and everyone else laughed). There were chuckles though. So I can still be in the family.
Oh and while in Utah... (the home of Napoleon)... Found out that the parents to Lafawnduh are Witnesses. They got $50 to sit there for the film. And now they are famous!

I'll admit, even after hearing Autumn and Hannah recount many and many lines from the movie before actually seeing it, I still wasn't convinced that it was a very good movie. While sitting through it I thought 'I spent $7 on this!' But now I think it's a great movie. I think it takes time to sit in. It's a great movie!!

Heh, I agree with your dad, Jerm. It had its three (I’m even giving it three) funny parts but the other... umm... 98.5 percent was painfully boring. Yeah, I know I'm alone in this. Bring on the scorn. I don't care. I'm old school. I saw it in theaters and never liked it because – like Gabs4miles there – I was pretty mad that I wasted 7 bucks on it and wasted all the time involved in sitting through it... well, at least I'm consistent.

Having known nothing about the movie except for the quotes I had heard I was intrigued when I watched it the first time. The thought of "Where is this movie going?" did cross my mind a couple times, but I still liked it the first time around.
My theory is that it appeals to all of us that are a little dorky or at least have that dorky side hidden deep down in us, because we know we can relate in one way or another. I think those that don't like it are in denial and think they are too cool or mature to like it. Thats just my theory :)
I say embrace your dorkiness!! :)

John, I am so disappointed.

Dumb and Dumber are still personal favorites. Watching it with my husband is best. He has the best laugh. Anyway, Napolian kind of grew on me. After seeing it the 3rd time I started to get the humor. Loved the moon boots. But I guess my favorite part is listening to Autumn and Hannah quote it. Much funnier than the movie. Especially listening to Hannah say to her father "I'll do what I feel like". It definitly sets the tone for the evening.

Jons unite!
I'm with my moniker's doppleganger here, I heard many a things about it until a few weeks ago when I was given the opprotunity to watch it. Seeing as how I had heard good and bad things about it, and not much else (as in the actual content of the movie), I knew not what to expect. I found it rather boring and pointless.
Now you can't really call me a sophisticate in all my tastes, I think Pokey the penguin is one of the greatest works of modern art you're going to find.

I thrive on illogic, and the nonsensical, but ND just seemed boring and flat. I keep hearing that people quote the movie all the time, but I really don't know what they're quoting, aside from "Whatever I feel like!" Seeing as how the dialogue was devoid of anything that resembled jokes, catchy phrases or cleverness.
To each their own. I'm certainly not going to judge the taste of anyone seeing as how I laugh until I cry reading the gospel that is Pokey.

Oh cool. I'm not alone anymore. Thanks man.
Yeah I hear quotes everywhere I go, and what's crazy is that there's nothing to quote. Saying "my lips really hurt!" and "gosh!" all the time just doesn't seem... um... compelling at all to me. Boring and flat sums it up indeed. And it's not like I'm really hard to entertain, either. Pretty much all I watch on TV these days is Adult Swim, and I'm a regular over at homestarrunner.com.
And I will refer to you all collectively as Napoleon Zombies. Dizzeal. Now go hang out with the Nirvana Zombies or something.

Lafawnduh's parents where shown in the film? Or they were paid to watch it? Napoleon D. was filmed in Idaho, where the writers of the film grew up. I'm guessing you meant Utah is the home of the actor who played him. Yeah I'm a Napoleon nerd. ;)
