Mom and Dad Friday

CRW_9300 (Small).jpg

OK, well this picture, and a trip back home has inspired well Mom and Dad Friday, or for those who don't call them Mom and Dad, Dwight and Mona Myers Friday.

This year found dad retiring from his school teaching position which he has had for the last 30 years. Now he has moved on to the world of carpentry, which he has always done in the summers. Also of course he spends plenty of time taking care of the farm as well.

Dad and teaching goes hand in hand. Everyone in Greeneville knows who Mr. Myers is. He's the crazy teacher many would retort. But also say he is the one who helped them realize they needed to try harder, or take life serious. Dad always cared about his students, that was obvious. (Because the ones who give the most discipline, actually have the most love)... that theory didn't go untrue at home either.

I used to wonder where I got my more crazy wacky side, and knew that some came from Moms Side (The McCoy show off gene)... But when I had dad in class, and watched him fire a ping pong ball into the forehead of the exchange student using fire and propellants; or watched him standing on desk teaching; or watched his other crazy antics... well everything made a little more sense. But I have always lookedup to dad... even when he taught me to be a punk... j/k.

One of my favorite stories is about when Mom and Dad just got married, dad was trying to make Nitro Glycerin and ended up blowing up the Bathroom.

Mom is always the one you joke around with more though. Not whinny.. (really she's not). Always laughing and with a smile on her face. While dad had his strict, we have to work... schedule, no time for fun attitude, mom usually could make things a little lighter. Mom brings the Leave it to Beaver Element to the family (Well Dad does to I guess)... But cooking, fixing, sewing, mending, gardening, all are mom's forte. (She’s an artist to if she'd ever get started again... as you see here... wait thats just scarry.).

I have to show alot of appreciation to them both though. They allowed so many experiences and hobbies growing up. (So now I know a little about everything from cooking to model planes (yeah I did fly that plane didn’t I this weekend to Building Barns to shooting Muzzleloaders) We always had the family trips, and they both thought it was very important to learn new things. They have both always been both great spiritual examples, and examples in general in life.

So to you Mom and Dad ... I say thank you. And to those who've not met them.... its high time you did... For something is always brewing in the mind of a Myers.

Mom and Dad. . .they're not really my parents, but they are two of the kindest people I've met. I've never heard them complain about having to feed the giant who stays at their house on occasion, and they've always said nice things to me, even when I fell down the stairs at their house. Brother Myers (don't think I'll ever call him Dwight) knows his airplanes, and we sit around and talk about that for hours, well really I sit and learn for hours as he expounds on the physical laws at work during flight. Sister Myers always has a kind word and a smile, and she's an excellent cook. I didn't know she was an artist, but that doesn't surprise me at all. All around good people that have a cherry tree in their front yard. That alone tells you just have down to earth these two are. I don't know if I've said it enough before, but thanks to Brother and Sister Myers for putting up with me whenever I'm in Tennessee. (Thanks to Darcie too, since whenever there are visitors it seems like its more work for them.) Hopefully next time I come down I can help out more and do more work than normal. =)

*whoops, I meant more work for her.

The myers parents! They are so sweet! It's so funny seeing them and jerm together you can see where he gets his personality from. They're easy going I mean what mother do you know that allows chocolate covered bugs to be cooked in her kitchen for a graduation party? I can't beleive dwight's retiring from teaching either.

Wow, very cool write up on your parents. My parents were always a great mix of strict and spiritual yet laid back and fun for me also. I thank Jehovah every once in awhile that me, my bro and sis had such great people to raise us.

BTW Jerm, Jered W tells me you might be coming up to our neck of the woods for a biking trip with the guys? Although I don't bike hopefully we'll get to meet.

Jerm's parents are super cool. I've only stayed up at their house once or twice, but I know they rule. I think they know me. I'm sure they have a lot of people to keep track of though. I do know that Mona thinks I sound like John Lennon.

Sorry that this is a late post, but yes, the Myers 'rents are great folks! It's been a long while since I've spent time with them, but I always remember them being very nice back in the Little D.A. days. Congrats Dwight and Mona!

Slightly Bigger D.A.

What a cool picture!! The best example we know of when it comes to parenting thats for sure!! They'
ve raised three great kids and still have love let over for ours. What more can you say but thanks for being such good examples in our congragation. You guys are the best !!!

Cool photo on the cycle….

I’m glad to have my parents cuz growing up they took us biking, canoeing, camping, traveling the US and Canada….played ball with us….taught us to cook, change oil in our cars, rotate tires, use a darkroom, sew, grow veggies, bottle feed cows….the list goes on…life was always interesting.

I especially appreciate that mom was always there for us when we came home from school thanks to dad. That would probably be an impossibility for me if I had a kid….but I liked it.

When I was about 17 yrs old I got depressed about something and dad taught me I should always have something to look forward to. I have always remembered that…..so all last week I looked forward to planting my flower garden along my sidewalk (obviously mom’s influence). Who else would look forward to that unless you had my mom and dad who trained you to enjoy work.

Mom and dad have always set us kids a great example. I love my mom and dad!

Woooo never saw some of those pics.

mom and dad always were the cutest little couple! wearing matching shirts. how cute. hehe. i too would like to send my appreciation.. cause there are many things that we were taught growing up whether we wanted to or not.. we needed it... like changing tires, that the difference between baking soda and baking powder is why your waffles flopped 3 times, and the velocity of a car moving up a 35% incline... or whatever... and though the family trips were sometimes a headache... especially when dad was grouchy as we first left the house... i got grouchy as jerm could NOT keep his legs together and give me and steph leg room... and steph was grouchy cause we kept looking at the same sights over and over.. and mom was grouchy cause dad keeps asking her were she wants to eat and she doesnt' care... and jerm was grouchy cause stephanie wouldn't just look at the scenery some more... they always ended up being alot of fun.. and alot of interesting stories. mom and dad always did take us o do and see. we went camping alot... dad always had to have the perfect packing tecnique so that everything was easily accesible. and everything Must be kept clean:) infact.. dad is more neat freak than mom... which is apparant by the many people that say our basement is the cleanest basement they have ever seen. he also LOVES to shock people (literally) with his scientific know how. hehe. i think my dad is the smartest person i know.. i don' knwo how anyoen can retain so much as he can.. jeremy is close behind. mom is always enjoyable.. i spend more time with her than anyone else these days. mom has definatly got alot of goofy in her.. but most people wouldn't know that or see that. she loves to dance around... my mom is the easiest person ever to get along with... hopefull that'll rub off on me too... i love 'em to death. and i wouldnt' trade 'em for anything:)

very sweet!
i love, love, love those two pics of your mom...those are really great pictures!!!.. in my opinion
(not scarry or whinny)

...and that one of u and your dad... that's a good one! ;o)
