A Solar Venus Encounter

Ah I almost forgot to remind everyone about this, and then Jillian reminded me. Tomorrow morning in the Eastern US, you will be about to see Venus cross in front of the sun. You will see a little dot which will be Venus transversing the path between the earth and the sun. While not to exciting just a few years ago (150ish) this was used to create a better understanding of the size and shape of the solar system. So if you are up early, dont miss this event (it will be over at 6:34 CST AM)... or sleep in and enjoy it later (well 12 years from now)
and remember
DONT STARE AT THE SUN! (You will go blind very very fast... go borrow your neighbors welding goggles (because everyone’s neighbor has welding goggles).

I always knew there was a reason I hated living in Texas! Something cool like that happens and of course it would miss my state!

Excellent. Venus. I'll be up early enough to see it but I dont have any welding goggles handy... so I'll just stare at the sun.

Actually a Guy named Nardis here in my town has welding goggles I can use. However I'd rather stare at the sun than ask him for them.

This may not work for this very special occasion, but you could always just get a telescope and hold a piece of paper where you would normaly look and it should be there on the paper....at least thats what we did for the solar eclipse when i was in middle school.
