The little Known of the Well Known

IMG_5701 (Small).JPG

Well a trip to the great state of North Carolina was quiet enjoyable. Seems my sister Stephanie has moved into the hear of whats good about the Appalachain Mountains. Minutes from Biking/Kayaking/Trout Fishing/White Water Rafting/Hiking/Sking... etc etc.

20 Minutes from there front door puts you at Cataloochee the hidden treasure of the smokies. A bit like Cades Cove with old homesteads in a mountain surrounded valley full of open fields. We took the opportunity to do a little bike riding on a blissfully perfect sping day. Mike of Course had to show off. And while not of the same caliburStephanie gave her best at following Suite But one thing is certain, she didnt end up in the same shape that Mike did.

On a further note, did you know Elk have been released in the smokies? What man, in man like fashion, destroyed several decades ago; they now are trying to reintroduce. Roughly 50 elk now stroll the mountains we call the smokies. We did get a glimpse of them. Very interesting, and unique this was. So head up to the smokies, and check it out... find the little known parts of the Most Visisted National Park in the US.

If Stephanie had actually brought Mike around any of we Knoxville kids for more than 15 minutes at a time, we would have been able to appreciate more fully that he had such a great personality (as opposed to being just "Stephanie's Boyfriend") and might have made an effort to hang out with the guy! But nooooo...we have to find out AFTER he's all married up!

Oh well.

Also, I think the Elk in the Smokies is a great thing, but I really have a problem with Elk. People make this big deal about them ("Ewwwwww! ELK!!!"), but the thing is, they're not small enough to be cute like deer, they're not big enough to be cool like a moose, and their antlers aren't huge enough to be like a reindeer.

They are the middle children of the hooved/horned family.

Therefore, elk, I shun thee.

and thats why they were killed off the first time... people not giving us middle kids... i mean middle of the road creatures a chance...

"Elk are Deer Too"

aww poor Elk, did one of them whisper in your ear..."hey dude, take me back to Canada would ya?"
lol

now that you mention it... now i understand all those earings n tags in there ears... the one is a punk canadian elk from vancouver...or the island...

"the one is a punk canadian elk from vancouver"

and

"giving midddle of the road creatures a chance..."

So, like any society, those who feel left out become the rebels and abstract thinkers. Pretty soon though, ALL of the deer-like critters will be wearing ear tags because it's become "cool".

Sigh.

The animal world is so fickle.

You said Elk. . .hehehehehehe

We have on video tape; my dad being chased by an elk on one of our many journeys to see our friends and relatives in Canada. It's hilarious!

Great pose with the bike, Mike. You're very photogenic.
