Sorry for the delay in People Fridays, They've been a bit hectic. But the day... one of the days we've all been waiting for is here. Tommy Friday. That's right, Tommy, the one and only. I've known Tommy for oh about well, since I moved here. Tommy is definitely unique, and will always stand out of the crowd. Sometimes due to his own antics sometimes due to his own uniqueness. Those who know Tommy know few have the passion about many things Tommy does. (Or the ability to zone out at times). So when you hear the word Tommy what comes to mind? Well one of the first things, is of course, impulsive full throttle dancing. That's right, be it dancing around a group of line dancers, or jumpin around at a concert (or attacked by goths).
Then of course you think of his singing ability. No one can sing like Tommy, where does it come from again? True passion, that's where. Its almost like he knew what emo was before he knew what emo was. Maybe it was an issue of singing the wrong genre, that turned people at first, but I knew his true ability. One of the great singers in music history.
Then of course there is his nature to rial people up... hmm he's like a little brother (or older brother, depending on how you look at it) to all of us.
But in all accounts, he is one who truly is a lover of activities, and most of all a good spiritual brother. Always with a focus on spiritual things, he is to be commended on his focus.
But there are all to many other stories, California (camping on top of a mountain, trying to get eaten by bears) to moments on the lake teaching us to ski.
Tommy Bruce, you'll not meet another like him... add your stories.
Posted by itzjerm at April 29, 2005 09:07 AMYa gotta love Tommy "April Fools" Bruce for his charming, complementary ways but just don't ride with him in a car. EEEEEK!
Posted by: Stephanie at April 29, 2005 09:46 AMoh how could I forget Tommy's driving skills... or maybe technique is the most complimentary way to state that. No one can stay on the road while looking out the rear window turned around backwards, forgeting they are driving as much as Tommy.
Posted by: itzjerm at April 29, 2005 10:02 AMOh i am so excited! Tommy Friday! Tommy is one of my best guy friends. If I ever have a boy question or boy problem, I call Tommy. I remember once when I first met Tommy, we were at a concert and we were standing outside a bathroom (waiting for someone) talking. Actually, I was talking Tommy was dancing and talking. Then he started doing cart-wheels through this huge crowd of people. I thought "this guy is nuts!" And I will never forget about having the "priviledge" of not only seeing his first public talk, but also listening to him practice it (did anyone note my hint of sarcasm). JK! I'd do it for you again Tommy, your a great friend and I'm happy to know you.
Posted by: Autumn at April 29, 2005 12:09 PMAwww...it's Tommy's day? We've had some good times, Tommy. I'll never forget when we first met and all those times we used to hang out. I miss those days!
Posted by: Janna at April 29, 2005 01:19 PMyes, tommy doesn't have the best driving record. we have come close to death many times. one time we were on the way to the QB and he thought he would show me how he can drive using his mirrors. i looked just in time to tell him that there was an oncoming car. he will even tell ya that was scary. yep, i don't know how he drives by himself.
he certainly loves to help people and is very sincere. he always is helping the older ones. and i can't figure out why they love him so much. j/k ;) but he does love life and doesn't let anything upset him. he does an excellent job being a ministerial servant and he brings tears to my eyes with the prayers he gives. i know there are countless memories but one thing is for sure, as mom says, "everybody needs a Tommy."
Posted by: kathryn at April 29, 2005 02:28 PMi need a tommy too... but so far i've kept one. the one and only. tommy does have some very good qualities.. he does love to help people. he is always ready to give reassurance to all when they need a pick me up. he loves little kids too... cameron will quickly bypass me to yell "TOMMY!" when he comes to visit. He's a hard worker... he's always willing to come help on the farm with the hay or taking care of the cows.. of picking up wood.. which no doubt he has to do when he comes and visits in TN> He's even helped me out by being my photo model when i've had to get ready for weddings. even though he started whinning after about 15 minutes. hehe. He's also very good at carrying on conversations with random people that he meets anywhere. he's very hyper often... picking up snakes by their tail.. yelling at UT football games...test driving cars wiht jeremy ( remind me to never do that with them again ) swinging on vines.. ( which my mom called him "wild" ) he is a jokester... i've had fun in all the times that i've spent wiht him. He's always there when i'm stressed or when i'm sad. He always makes me feel better. He's a very devoted person... and I don't know what i'd do without him!
Posted by: darcie at April 29, 2005 03:04 PMTommy the Bruce.
If we would have known Tommy's record of driving, I don't think we would ever have let him be a DD for us! Aside from that, I love hopping around with this boy at shows, playing "a seven card game where people bet chips of varying values based upon the strength of hand that they are dealt, or by bluffing so as to frighten other players into dropping out of a round of betting" (apparently I have to edit out the word for this game because it is somehow offensive...you dirty minded buggers) with him, and being forgiven for various road-rage indiscretions which I purpetrated (sp?) upon him.
He's a fun-lovin' worker o' the lord, and makes some mean bacon and eggs to boot!
Much love, you maniac,
D.A.
Posted by: D.A. at April 29, 2005 04:01 PMI'll break my blog hiatus for Tommy Friday.
I've got to say that Jeremy doesn't have enough bandwidth or web space for all of the things I could write, upload, and post about Tommy.
What I will say is that Tommy is one of the best friends I've ever had. He's one of the few people in whom I can trustingly confide. He is the "friend sticking closer than a brother" and the 'true companion who is loving all the time, a brother that is born for when there is distress.' (Prov. 18:24, 17:17)
I've definitely got to agree with Kim Bruce as Kathryn quoted her. Everybody does need a Tommy! That was quite moving to read. And 100% accurate.
If you don't know him and his unique character and LIKE him, it's either because you a) haven't met him yet, b) are a Granola bar, or c) are blind and deaf.
Posted by: Tim at April 29, 2005 04:29 PMTommy. Not much I can say, really. He's cool. People like him.
Posted by: Unapologetically Javann at April 29, 2005 09:16 PMWhat can i say about tommy... he is my brother, my very best friend in the world. Me and him share so many memories that i couldn't possibly relate all of them, mostly because i am sworn to secrecy. Like the time we did security at the convention.. and then fell asleep on the stage(hope there arent any elders reading this :) or the time we snuck out of the house to go fishing and got back before your mom knew we were gone. I think of memories of you getting a sobriety test and then getting hand cuffed on the hood of a police car. Or the time the boat ran out of gas and we had to use skis to paddle all the way to shore and your dad said "hurry paddle before we loose our momentum." But i think one of the scariest moments is one of the first times i went over to your house and we were getting ready for the meeting and your dad asked if i i wanted to hop in the shower with tommy to save some time..ahh..i quickly put an end to that idea. But really the main thing i think of with tommy is that if i didnt have him as my friend my life would have never been as exciting or interesting as it has been. I dont think i would be were i am know without his honest heart helping my to see were i had made a mistake and then helping me to fix it, and for that i thank you because i dont know where i would be know if i didnt have thank.
so lets raise a pitcher to tommy
Posted by: scotty wotty too hotty at May 2, 2005 12:58 PMI don't know a lot about Tommy. I must say I don't remember him looking like this picture. He was actually the person that introduced me to misconstruedthoughts though. Last Sept I went to a party that Autumn and Mallory were giving and met him.
I met Tommy and his sister Kathryn and cousin Philip. They were all very friendly, introduced me to a bunch of other people and made me feel at home at a party where I only knew about 3 people to start out. So in my opinion he is pretty cool. :)
