Oh my legs...

Startsmall.jpg

So then I said yes....

Yes to running a 10K. How hard could that be? Well I must admit I'm pretty proud of myself actually running for the last 2 weeks or more.... preparing for this day. But wow... my legs are starting to feel it now. And I know for certain now that my fellow runners, Reggie, Kathyrn, Mindy...(go team!) are all in much better shape and ability to run than myself. But I'm pretty proud of doing a 3 mile run/jog so far... and with so much time before the actual 10K.

Now, not really sure how I'll hold up to the new comers... Phillip (although we all know you're a trooper and there is no doubt that you'll finish, (or get frostbite trying) (oh yeah it'll be May), then Tommy, (uh oh, needs new shoes). Javann... hmm early pains a showing... Tre (The Crip... returns to the action).... Sky? (He's said He's ready... but thoughts of Hawaii make me wander), and Ben... well I've just not ran with ya yet man... sorry. Newsome? Its a rumor.

I know the record for this course is 29 minutes. If I can do the run in twice that I'll be incredibly proud of myself.

So anyways, the race is on May 30th, in Huntsville.

You can get more information here... (yes it isn't a flat run... it has some pretty large climbs).

See ya at the start line, then maybe at the finish line, or the side of the road, or maybe the emergency room.

So join us at well... sheer torture... its great for the whole family.

You can register here. If you act before the 15th of this month its only $10.

WAIT...you mean you have to PAY to run in the race?!

Posted by: Autumn at April 4, 2005 09:12 AM

I think you have to pay to run in most all races?

Posted by: itzjerm at April 5, 2005 07:55 AM

Yeah, you do. That's where that prize money comes from. I'll be there. . .panting, wishing I wasn't there. . .or maybe even trying to catch a ride. . .

By the way, for those not from Huntsville, Cotton Row is infamous for having hills, hills and nothing but. SO if you're running, be sure to get your training in on hills. There's a good one in Huntsville on Rutledge, and in Madison on Eastview. Yeah that's the magnitude we're talking about here. Those are some attacking warriors sized hills.

Anyone seen the new Google Maps Satellite feature? You can zoom in to see houses and stuff in the larger areas. Pretty neat. You can even scope out the 10k route...

Posted by: keats at April 5, 2005 12:13 PM

yeah i looked at it today actually... tis the same as there keyhole software... well except its free.. and the roads aren't overlayed...

but google maps is the way to go

Posted by: itzjerm at April 5, 2005 12:21 PM

Don't forget to eat lots of carbs the night before the race. Well that was what the guy on the new Young People Ask video said, which hello, that video made me cry!

Posted by: kim at April 5, 2005 01:18 PM

I started preparing for the Race yesterday, but that was when I thought it was a 5K...Now a 10K I am not too sure about (I know its only 3 more miles)..I will continue training though but will not committ just yet.

Posted by: Ana at April 5, 2005 02:13 PM

well if ya want to run with others... we have been running ever night

those who dont want to do the 10 K, well there is a 5 K that day too!

So there ya go...

Posted by: itzjerm at April 5, 2005 02:28 PM

does anyone else think it funny that the joggers in the pic are running a soon-to-be red light?? they should all be disqualified ;)

another thing...that elevation scale that's on the link...is it 852 feet or inches in elevation? haha j/k. that's gonna be a killer, especially since it's during the hardest miles of the race!

Posted by: kat at April 5, 2005 02:40 PM

hmm...i figured it was fixing to be a green light... ya know... red... yellow... green ... go?

i dunno

and yes it will be ... practice run um... next weekend!

Posted by: itzjerm at April 5, 2005 02:48 PM

wow! i'm proud of you guys, i've only done the crazy 8's (8K run)in kingsport tn. that race is lots of fun, you run at night with all the kenyans passing you by. i mean jetting by!
maybe you all can join me in the NYC marathon for 2006...thats if i ever give up commuting to work (my running is on hiatus- misspelled?)and oh yeah definitely hill train else you'll be hurtin'

Posted by: ruth at April 5, 2005 02:54 PM

That sounds good,I think our meetings are on the same nights too, except now I have a Friday night bookstudy.
Where and what time do you meet? Lemme know

Posted by: Ana at April 5, 2005 03:05 PM

Here is great runner.

I couldn't post his website because of content??? something about u*ltram?? (had to mess it up cause it wouldn't let me post it)

uh..yeah

Posted by: tommy at April 5, 2005 04:10 PM

hey, jerm, that looks like a really cool place to trial run. i think we can beat the heat and run the 262 miles ;)

Posted by: kathryn at April 5, 2005 04:57 PM

jerm you need to run during daytime its ten times harder

Posted by: phil at April 5, 2005 05:07 PM

O Yea! Count me in Jerm! I too started my training as well. You see jerm hiking and running are completely different. When you HIKE near a volcano with no water, i get scared. When you RUN in a city thats more than likely has an numerous supply of water, i not scared. :D But yea. I'm in! Why? Cuz i'm here for your Enteratiment!!!!!

Posted by: Sky "The Entertainer" at April 5, 2005 06:50 PM

I think I just may dust off my legs and run with yall as well it sounds like a good will you die before you finish challenge. When do yall run?

Posted by: Jared F at April 5, 2005 10:30 PM

we've been running every night out at my house... we run 2 walk 1 right now... buildin our way up... the plan is to run trails on the weekend, that will give us practice going up and down...

And honestly i must say how in the world does those guys do those long runs? thats crazyQ
!

Posted by: itzjerm at April 5, 2005 10:55 PM

I too have been training. And I've got an idea. I suggest we take some hills. Hills like Rutledge, or Eastview, or Everest. If we run those all the time, I believe we can do it. I believe we can outrun even the kenyans, and that one dude in the short shorts who runs barefooted. Do know that the top prize is a $1000. That's a lot of lil smokies.

Posted by: QQR (Quiz Quiz Revolution) at April 6, 2005 01:17 AM

Oh, by the way, I was going to say I'll try it and let you guys know if I survive it. The hill running that is.

Posted by: Unapologetically Javann at April 6, 2005 01:21 AM

Ha... to win would be impossible for me... we did a mile in 8 min 20 sec last night... that was with little rise... If I did all 6 at that pace, I would still only have a time of 50 minutes. (THE GUY WHO WON DID 34 minutes last years... ha yeah right)

But we are gonna run/jog/walk the course next weekend...

Posted by: itzjerm at April 6, 2005 07:30 AM

Hey you will have to plan another practice course run, I have my special day assembly next Sunday and we have to leave on Sat, it is in Cooksville.

Posted by: Ana at April 6, 2005 08:55 AM

What I meant to say in my last post, was that I want to go but cant so I hope you plan another practice run. I thought about what I said and I thought it was rude, I sounded bossy and didnt mean it that way.

Posted by: Ana at April 6, 2005 09:02 AM

Uhmm this sounds pretty intersting. Well I will consider myself as a great runner. In school I won first place State Wide Cross Country for Track, so I will see if I'm able to do this. I think my inspiration is from my dear friend "Forrest Gump" who not only compared life to candy(chocolate), but he ran across the country starting in Alabama, and then came back. Lets see how far I will get!!!!
