Now for some lyrics...

Seeing how its creative writing... I thought I would turn to some artist for good lyrics. I usually listent to music for the music not the lyrics. But some bands, its all about the lyrics... good example

THE SMITHS - GIRL AFRAID

Girl afraid
where does his intentions lay?
Or does he even have any?
She says:
"He never really looks at me
I give him every opportunity
in the room downstairs
he sat and stared
in the room downstairs
he sat in stared
I'll never make that mistake again !"

Boy afraid
prudence never pays
and everything she wants costs money
"But she doesn't even LIKE me!"
and I know because she said so
in the room downstairs
she sat and stared
in the room downstairs
she sat and stared
I'll never make that mistake again!"

Add your favorite lyrics to a song...

Some day you might find you are starving,
and eating all of the words that you said

- ani defranco "32 Flavors"

she doesn't know the man
who tries to push her wheelchair in the sand
she just looks up to see
he's talking endlessly

oh why won't he shut up
i take my medicine, i crush the paper cup.
oh maybe he's my son
and he's come to set me freeeee...

- Rasputina

I want that diamond
i really do
i think that you should get me one
then you can prove
your love is true
and the gift giving has just begun

... i dont' care how you get it
you can rob a store, there's just nothing
that i want more
than diamonds for me and aunt gladis

just some little stud earings!

-Rasputina

i'll tell you every intimate note
without sparing a detail
but this i.. truely must confide.

I don't tell my secrets anymore..
shouldn't be no suprise...
that i don't tell my secrets anymore..
i only tell lies

...When I wish of her
I wish her beneath my gaze
And if I drink of her it will
be all my days
...I should have been amazed

Sand in the hallway
The glisten of her laugh
I’ve never found it easier to spend my days

My soul sings the prowler’s nocturne
From deep down within this cage
We have too many last nights in our lives
Too many desperate hours
Whispering goodbyes
And baby the earth shook
The last time I heard you cry

Yes you loved me
Gently caressed my face
Not some little sorcery
Some simple twist of fate
I was hundreds of feet away
I should have been amazed
-Russell Crowe & 30 Odd Foot of Grunts

There are times that walk from you like some passing afternoon
Summer warmed the open window of her honeymoon
And she chose a yard to burn but the ground remembers her
Wooden spoons, her children stir her Bougainvillea blooms

There are things that drift away like our endless, numbered days
Autumn blew the quilt right off the perfect bed she made
And she's chosen to believe in the hymns her mother sings
Sunday pulls its children from the piles of fallen leaves

There are sailing ships that pass all our bodies in the grass
Springtime calls her children until she let's them go at last
And she's chosen where to be, though she's lost her wedding ring
Somewhere near her misplaced jar of Bougainvillea seeds

There are things we can't recall, Blind as night that finds us all
Winter tucks her children in, her fragile china dolls
But my hands remember hers, rolling around the shaded ferns
Naked arms, her secrets still like songs I'd never learned
-Iron & Wine

Well, I thought, why not some Muse? My favorite band to quote. Sorta. Well. . .not really. Okay so here it is.

Citizen Erased
Break me in,
Teach us to cheat
And to lie, cover up
What shouldn't be shared?
All the truth unwinding
Scraping away
At my mind
Please stop asking me to describe him

For one moment
I wish you'd hold your stage
With no feelings at all
Open minded
I'm sure I used to be so free

Self expressed, exhausting for all
To see and to be
What you want and what you need
The truth unwinding
Scraping away
At my mind
Please stop asking me to describe

For one moment
I wish you'd hold your stage
With no feelings at all
Open minded
I'm sure I used to be so free

For one moment
I wish you'd hold your stage
With no feelings at all
Open minded
I'm sure I used to be so free

Wash me away
Clean your body of me
Erase all the memories
They will only bring us pain
And I've seen all I'll ever need

A billion people died on the news tonight
But not so many cried at the terrible sight
Well mama said
It's just make believe
You can't believe everything you see
So baby close your eyes to the lullabies
On the news tonight

Who's the one to decide that it would be alright
To put the music behind the news tonight
Well mama said
You can't believe everything you hear
The diagetic world is so unclear
So baby close your ears
On the news tonight
On the news tonight

The unobtrusive tones on the news tonight
And mama said
Mmm

Why don't the newscasters cry when they read about people who die
At least they could be decent enough to put just a tear in their eyes

Mama said
It's just make believe
You cant believe everything you see
So baby close your eyes to the lullabies
On the news tonight

Nina,

Great Iron and Wine song. I think I posted the lyrics to it on a previous quote day on here or somewhere. It made me happy to see it again.

If you are in to I&W you may like a guy by the name of Bill Riccini, and if you haven't heard it yet, get ahold of I&W covering The Postal Service "Such Great Heights". It's a B-side to the single of the same name, and also on the Garden State soundtrack.

Hey Thanks! I'll definately check those out...always looking for new music.

Yeah I couldn't remember where I heard about Passing Afternoon, but it probably was here...sorry to steal it from you!! :) Still...it's an awesome song.

Falling in and out of love
With something sweet to throw away.
But I want something good to die for
To make it beautiful to live.

Posted by: case at August 27, 2004 01:58 PM

ok here you go DA

it's bugging me, grating me
and twisting me around
yeah i'm endlessly caving in
and turning inside out

'cause I want it now
I want it now
give me your heart and your soul
and i'm breaking out
i'm breaking out
last chance to lose control

I'm with D.A., you really should quote something better. How about. . .Mineral

i wouldn't mind if you took me in my sleep tonight i wouldn't even put up a
fight i wouldn't care if you took it all away today i'm sure i wouldn't even
miss the pain but i know i've got to live my life and roll aroud on the ground
and feel the strife and realize along the way that i'm nothing more than a
grain of salt in the salt of the earth and everything is grace so come on with
the darkness come on with the fear cause i've got to start somewhere and it
might as well be here and when i'm finally naked and standing in the sunlight
i'll look back at all this selfishness and foolish pride and laugh at myself.

Carve your heart out yourself
Hopelessness is your cell
Since you've drawn out these lines
Are you protected from trying times?
Man it takes a silly girl to lie about the dreams she has
But it takes a lonely one to wish that she had never dreamt at all
Oh look now, there you go with hope again
Oh, you're so sure I'll be leaving in the end
Dig a ditch deep enough
To keep you clear of the sun
You've been burned more than once
You don't think much of trust

DA... that's from the song secrets... i really don't know what album... it's not from magazine, the early years, or their last two either. who knows:)

Posted by: darcie at August 27, 2004 08:09 PM

Hmmm...thanks darc. I'll look into it.

All this talk of Mineral makes me wish I had brought some to Nashville. I guess I'll have to rustle up some.

Also, to Nina, I didn't want to insult your intelligence earlier but simply assuming you didn't know of him, but something occurred to me while posting:

Listening to Iron and Wine, you should be in to Elliott Smith as well.

yeah I agree jerm, the smiths have some pretty good lyrics....here's another good example,

shyness is nice, but
shyness can stop you
from doing all the things in life
that you'd like to
So if there's something that you'd
like to try
Ask me - i wont say "no" - how could I?
Coyness is nice, but
Coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in
life that you want to
So, if there's something that you'd
like to try
If there's something that you'd
like to try
Ask me - I won't say "no" - How could I?
Spending warm, Summer days indoors
Writing frightening verse
To a buck-toothed girl in Luxembourg
Ask me, Ask me, Ask me
Ask me, Ask me, Ask me
Because if it's not love
Then it's the bomb
that will bring us together
Nature is a language-can't you read?
Nature is a language-can't you read?
Ask me, Ask me, Ask me
Ask me, Ask me, Ask me
Because if it's not love
Then it's the bomb
That will bring us together
