...Trail of Dead - Source Tags & Codes (2002)

As I have warned before, don’t be afraid of the group name, true it sounds as if you should. But this is a great album with nothing to fear (but fear itself). Mood Swingers will particularly like this album. Such variety in mood in one album, which actually flows perfectly. It all Starts with piano music that leads up to a concert? No to groovy surf music. Then what? How about a little accordion music to get your ready for some Heavy Music about love in It was there I saw You with calm peaceful moments to contemplate what has been heard and experienced. (Much like life). It has it all including theatrical drums to set the mood. The album continues through this procession, of Change with deep sounds to be found, for those surreal moments, Which can then be broken by nightmare like moments. Not the nightmares which are surreal, but those which are the nightmares you think are really happening, which are bad, but not horrible. But in the end after cleansing your system of every mood, peace is found as the album takes you out on a set of peaceful string arrangements. Get this album and cleanse your mood system.

Toad the Wet Sprocket - Dulciena (1995)

Hey now any group who gets there name from a Monty Python skit has to be good..right!? But really Toad is the greatest Alternative Folk groups ever. Dulceina is a great album with good pure music. Their use of vocals is quiet powerful. Glen Philips really shines in his singing performances. Another artist who truly puts his soul into his singing; you can tell there is no way he can sing some of the parts with his eyes open. There is too much feeling in many of the songs (i.e. Listen) for ones eyes to be open, you can really tell how he feels when he sings. It really makes you sing along, and really moves you even if you don't listen to the words only the sounds. Nanci is one of Toads funniest songs as he goes back and forth between liking Nanci and Lorreta. And I often find myself quoting Stupid. "I am feeling really stupid now" calls out the chorus. Of course you also have the hits Something's Always Wrong and Fall Down. The only bummer on this album is the last track Reincarnation Song the strangest Toad song of all time and unfortunately a part of this album. But the rest of the album more than makes up for that one song.
